Why All Dad Wants Is A Good Steak This Father’s Day

It’s not simply a stereotype. Here’s why he’ll only be happy with Hunter & Barrel’s best cuts in his belly to celebrate UAE Father’s Day on June 21st

Say “steak dinner” to most men, and you’ll see a spark in the eyes, or may even be met with a hearty grunt of approval. Because meat equals manliness – and that’s not just a biased Hunter & Barrel opinion! Nope, the male connection to steak comes from a deep-rooted ancestral desire to demonstrate their hunter-gatherer status.

“Meat is a major commodity and a very important aspect of human existence,” write the authors of research published by the Journal of Consumer Research. “Perhaps more than any other food, meat is laden with meanings because of its association with higher status and the killing of animals.”

In fact, in the study, which took place across several locations in the US and Britain, researchers found that when they asked participants to rank 23 foods for “maleness”, medium-rare steak, hamburger and well-done steak came out on top. As for the foods considered the most female? Chocolate, peach and chicken salad!

So, there you have it. Take him for Dubai’s best steak this Father’s Day, and you’re subconsciously celebrating his masculinity. We’d call that a win-win.
